The Mango Tree

Why the mango?

We all know the mango as that delicious and gorgeous yellowy-pink fruit that pours sweet stickiness between our fingers and with flesh that gets caught in our teeth on warm summer days.

But it is also so much more than that.

For the authors of this blog, the mango is both a symbol and a memory. It is the tree that flowered and bore fruit at our home in warm Costa Rica and the fruit that binds our little family together.

According to 'Tree Spirit Wisdom' the mango "encourages us to remember and honour the happy moments of our childhood and in our life as a way to rejuvenate the soul. Mango signals a period of returning to our past to reconnect with friends, family and places. Mango trees symbolise love and happiness that possess the magical power to grant wishes."

This resonates strongly with us Mangos (as we like to call ourselves).

Our mango family was a space and nourishing space where we could return to our childlike selves, where we could play, and create and laugh and dance - for no audience but us. And our souls were rejuvenated by that space.

Apparently dreaming about mango trees represents a positive change in one's life or an opportunity to flourish. And I know, for me, as time sets in, Costa Rica becomes more and more like a dream, but because of the Mangos that I met there, it absolutely changed my life for the better and these people will punctuate my life for as long as I live.

And as a way to hold on to that memory, that feeling, that sense of safety and expression, we got matching tattoos! To always carry a reminder with us, to help us return and reconnect with those friends that we truly felt ourselves with.

As we are now heading to four different corners of the Earth, this online space is a space for us to continue to our expression, our passions and our activism. For us, but also, for any green mango that wants to follow along!
